|To All Members
As you are no doubt aware agreement has been reached between the Golfing Union of Ireland/Irish Ladies Golfing Union and the Government that will allow the reopening of golf courses for play, on a restricted basis, as from Monday, the 18th of May.
This will form part of the first step in the Government’s roadmap for the easing of Covid-19 restrictions and hopefully the full restoration of golf will follow.
Guidelines and protocols on play will be issued by the Golfing Unions early next week but it is expected that only casual golf will be allowed and will be confined to members only – no guests, no visitors, no societies, and no competitions.
We expect that demand to play the course will be high and in order to manage this demand and stay within the Covid – 19 restrictions, it will be necessary for members to book a time slot using the Clubs BRS booking system.
Only members who have paid their subscription in full, or have entered into a payment arrangement with the Subscriptions Secretary, or are paying their subscription by means of a direct debit payment through their bank will be able to book a time slot or play the course.
If you were a member in 2019 and to date have not renewed your subscription you will not be able to make a booking or play the course. Should you wish to renew your membership you should contact Subscriptions Secretary Ivan Fuery, at 087 241 4090 or email him at firstname.lastname@example.org. Ivan will be happy to process the payment of your 2020 subscription.
The first step in the restoration of golf is very welcome and John Neely and the Greens staff at Barnhill have been busy during the closure period preparing the course for play. Fairways have all been sanded, greens hollow-tined and sanded, divots replaced and bunkers refreshed. Repair work to some of our bridges has also been completed. It is planned to commence drainage work on both sides of the first fairway early next week and this work will be completed in a few days.
The course should be in great shape for reopening on the 18th and we are all looking forward to getting back to playing on the fairways and greens of Barnhill.
We will forward the full guidelines on the restoration of play from the Golfing Unions to all members once we receive them and we would ask everyone to adhere to all the protocols and any local rules that will be introduced with the resumption of play.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our members who have shown solidarity and support to the Club, be it financial or otherwise, during this difficult time for all of us.
